Web design & Development

Web Development is my area of expertise and in the majority of cases this may be the first time you have embarked on a web development project.

It is important that I develop a website that excites you and is exactly what you require.  I offer full transparency from the outset, no hidden charges or extras, with a detail quote of the services I am providing. Any additions that are not part of the original quote will aways be discussed and confirmed beforehand giving you peace of mind and confidence in what I am delivering.

I approach web design in clearly defined stages to help progress the website.

Planning / Brief

In my opinion the most important part of any project is to clearly plan and discuss all the projects requirements, technicalities and any ideas that you might have for the website. It is vital that we both understand the project brief and design ideas before any agreement is set in stone.

To help you create your brief I have created a questionnaire for you to complete, which will help clarify and structure your project and make note of any corporate guidelines you already have.

Design Concept

Once the initial project brief has been established I will begin to develop a design concept. This will be a blueprint for the website design to set the overall style and allow you to see how the site will look and feel.

During this stage I will demonstrate how the homepage with function along with another sub page if required. This will be sent you via a website link along with a detail quotation and brief for you to approve and give the go ahead to progress the project.

Please note that at this stage up to two sets of revisions are allowed for.

Development

When you have given me the go ahead to progress the project I can begin the development stage and begin constructing your website. It is very essential that I have all the relevant content and images ready for this stage as it will greatly assist in the development process and timescale.

If you website is Content Managed then I would begin to program your CMS at this stage. Once I have completed this stage I will submit the site for you to review and provide comments.  Generally at this point the site will not be 100% complete and any snags and minor changes are expected from your initial review, which will be amended prior to you agreeing to making the site live.

Testing

Once you have reviewed and approved the website to go live I will proceed with thoroughly testing your website to ensure it conforms to W3C standards, displays correctly on Mac/PC browsers and check the standard Search Engine Optimisation techniques have been applied to the website.

Once this has been completed I will make the website live for everyone to view your shiny new website!

What's included as standard

As best practice, your new web site will automatically include or conform to the following standards.

Accessibility

It is important your website meets a high standard of accessibility as it is recognised that the site will be used by many people and it is imperative that the website provides the best possible accessibility.

The site will be developed using XHTML 1.0 and CSS templates and all code written to be  compliant with the current accessibility legislation and guidelines, which is seen as ‘good business practice’.

All websites are validated against the W3C vailidator.

Alt Tag

Each image of the website will have descriptive supporting text called Alt Tags, which is visible when the mouse hovers over the image.

Contact Details & Forms

The site will be built to ensuring that any visitor, at any point during a visit has the ability within a single click to obtain the information to make contact with you using a broad range of response devices (telephone, facsimile, email, electronic reply form, web and address details).

 

Bespoke Content Management Systems

Being able to keep your website up to date with news articles, twitter feeds, blogs, case studies and much more doesn’t have to be a difficult and a time consuming task.

Content Management Systems (CMS) give you the flexibility to control how and when you update your website. There are many off the shelf open source CMS system available such as Joomla, Drupal or Wordpress. Each of them has their merits and can be a very powerful system for a company that requires a large site.

However, not all off the shelf CMS systems are appropriate if you only have a few basic news articles to update. It’s easy to forget sometimes as a web developer that not everyone has the technical understanding to manage a large CMS system; often you are left with an all singing and dancing CMS that is too complicated to update or understand.

I can provide bespoke CMS systems that are very easy to use and only have the features you require, such as a simple updatable case study section or gallery area so that even a ‘technically challenged’ person can easily update their own website.

All my CMS systems are programmed in PHP/MySQL and I provide full training on how to use your bespoke custom CMS system before your website is launched.

Viral Flash Games & Animation

I have developed a number of viral flash games, which can provide an excellent tool for promoting an offer or event. I can also include a scoreboard that can capture user scores and email address, perfect for competitions and mailing lists. Alternatively viral flash game could be used as a Christmas, Easter or Birthday e-card,  to send to all your favourite clients and friends.

I have also worked on a number of flash applications, which range from CD Presentations, Brochure Flip books to custom wall and floor paint colour select tools.

I normally administer the hosting on your behalf, however if you would also like to administer your hosting setup then my packages each come with a very user friendly Plesk control Panel, which will allow you to administer your emails, passwords, ftp accounts and much more.

I can provide a custom HTML email template as a basis for any of your email marketing campaigns.

Mail Chimp is an online email marketing application that is cost effective and full of excellent features such as tracking who has opened your emails, scheduling your campaigns ahead of time, dynamic information specific to each recipient such as their name.  Its 100% free providing you have no more than 2000 subscribers and send out no more than 12,000 emails per month, but should you go over this then the prices are very competitive.

I can create MailChimp email templates based on your existing or new corporate identity. This could be a one off template you will use to create your own newsletter or individually design each newsletter to suit your specific needs.
